As the owner, the Uecht Observatory Foundation is dedicated to operating the observatory and making it accessible to both professional astronomers and the general public. The founder of the Uecht Observatory, Dr. h. c. Willy Schaerer, established it in 1982 as the “Dr. h. c. Willy Schaerer Private Observatory Foundation in Uecht.” This Swiss pioneer of telescope technology and enthusiastic astronomer bequeathed his observatory to the foundation and entrusted it with continuing its operation. Today, the foundation is responsible for the development and operation of the Space Eye.
